It’s really annoying when people walk around with a “savior complex” thinking they are going the be the heroes who will pull other people out of the rut they are in but they refuse to leave their safe and comfortable environment.  They stay warm and cozy in their merry little lives, detached from the mistakes, all the while putting the blame on the people they are trying to save. They view them as the cause of their own problems.  They view their very existence as a “challenge.”

It’s one thing to want to help others because well, maybe you do have something to offer.  But if you can’t even walk amongst these people - if you don’t even understand their experiences, their ways, their hearts - don’t come barging into their lives and preaching to them.  Because you know what?  You will be shunned and all good intentions you may possibly have, will be put to waste.

Understand the people, and most importantly understand yourself and where you’re coming from so that you’ll know how that is affecting the people you are trying to help.  If it is your vow to help these people, step out of your comfort zone and into their shoes.  Maybe then you’ll understand why.
